In 1997, BP Automation/Division of Brandstrom Engineering was contacted by Dywidag-Systems International to develop a threaded fibreglass rebar system. The company field tested the new product for suitability in different applications such as saltwater, mining and tunnelling.
Incorporated in 2000, BP Composites Ltd. was formed to supply DSI and the mining industry with threaded fibreglass rebar. Complimenting the existing fibreglass rebar, BP Composites Ltd. developed composite fasteners and accessories. In addition to supplying GFRP rock bolt systems, BP Composites Ltd. developed a proprietary process in the production of an non threaded fibreglass rebar.
As a result, ISIS Canada in 2007 requested BP Composites Ltd. develop a family of rebar sizes suitable for the concrete infrastructure market. TUF-BAR™ was released in 2008 for specified Civil Engineering applications.
